“The 2nd African Epilepsy Congress will be one of the highlights of my year. Based in my home city it will be an honour to hear the presentations from colleagues within Africa and beyond. The uniqueness of this meeting cannot be underestimated addressing topics from the role of traditional healers to state of the art interventions. The networking with experts in the field will be an amazing opportunity for any person involved in epilepsy care.

All sessions will have many aspects to hold an audience’s interest, to expand their knowledge and to make them re-review their practice. Two sessions in particular are especially innovative for Africa. The theme on the ketogenic diet to be addressed by Katherine Megaw on Thursday 22nd May, will illustrate that the diet is possible and effective even in a resource limited settings and that it can be done well and cost effectively. The session coordinated by Laura Jurasek on education programmes (Friday 23rd May) will be most important, without finding innovative and relevant ways to raise awareness of epilepsy, affected persons with not be able to access care”.
